iBurst’s SMTP woes January 23, 2007

After weeks of frustration, I’m checking out.

Anyone else out there having the same SMTP problems? – ‘connecting..failed’, ’server may be unavailable’, ‘refusing connections’, etc etc.

When sending a mail – it takes significantly longer than it should. There is either a config issue – or they have maxed out on capacity. Time for some action iBurst! The call center is pleasant, empathetic and fairly jacked – but after 3 calls (including chatting to Management) about this issue (with confirmation that I’m not the lone voice) – surely there is enough noise enough to make this a priority.

I also use Vodacom HSDPA – and the VC SMTP setup is on steroids in comparison to iBurst. The identical mail (300k) to my Gmail account took 5 seconds to send on Vodacom and about 90 seconds on iBurst. I know that there are differences in network speeds – but for a ‘4G network‘, iBurst needs a little SMTP introspection.

Frustration when sending email ranks up there with faulty printers, jammed photocopier machines, weak wifi signal – and dodgy call centers.

Iburst has been fine in Cape Town. Perhaps all that extra capacity they put down here to cater for the festive season crowds? Now that everyone’s gone we’re speeding along here.

Tell their engineers to get back to work in Joburg when you see them down at the local.

You know, I want to support them – but am finding it difficult to do on an ongoing basis.

I was unable to send a 5 line email for almost 12 hours on Wednesday. It seems pretty pointless providing email service in the state it’s in.

Hey Peter – For their sake, I hope they can get it right. Although they suffered a DOS attack recently, it should be better than it is.

Have been having problems with posting comments due to IP address being black listed – a week has gone by and still waiting for the help to sort it out

I am in Kraai Fontein Western Cape and seem to have the exact same SMTP problem as stated above. Plus some of my mail never reaches its destination…not sure what is going on…
